A Manchester brewery will use Cask Ale Week (September 23rd to October 3rd) to unveil updated branding of some of its favourite beers – showcasing Manchester heritage and introducing new drinkers to ‘Britain’s specialitybeer’.
Hydes Brewery, based in Salford, has refreshed its Cask Ale brands, and will be launching these across the entire Hydes estate to demonstrate their importance to not only Hydes but the Cask Ale industry as a whole.
During the pandemic, Cask Ale has faced tough times, with an unprecedented fall in volumes due to the hospitality closure, with industry bodies championing sale revival and commercial stability.
Hydes’ Managing Director, Adam Mayers said, “It’s no surprise that the pandemic has given Cask Ale a challenging time, but we are determined to keep cask ale in people’s minds. Cask ale is unique to the UK and important to Hydes. It’s central to our heritage and an important element of what our pubs offer.
“Refreshing our branding shows our commitment to the business, both the brewing and the pub estate, but also our passion for continuing the tradition of quality ales, which we have been known for across Greater Manchester since 1863.
“The beers are named, and the new branding reflects the company’s near 160-year history including the industrial revolution at its peak, with the introduction of the mechanical cogs and the inclusion of our founders Ralf and Alf. But equally providing modern standout coupled with a consistent approach across the range.
Throughout Cask Ale Week, Hydes will be revealing, day by day, their new core cask ale branding, sharing their five core brands, Original, 1863, Lowry, Hopster and Dark Ruby, across the period.
“There is no better time to share our new branding than during Cask Ale Week, especially this year as it has an important role to play following a challenging period and I hope that the government will support cask ale in the autumn budget.
“Our range of Cask Ales offers something for everyone from sweet and bitter to a zingy citrus hit. Cask Ale is becoming much more accessible, and I challenge people to come in and try one. We know that once people try Cask Ale, they are pleasantly surprised by the taste and flavour and are often converted and have it as their ‘go to drink’.
The branding reveal will take place across the Hydes social media channels in addition to the Hydes pubs during the week.

Hydes Core Cask Ale Range – Tasting Notes
Original: A classic, highly popular amber session ale. Brewed to a traditional family recipe handed down through generations of Hydes brewers. A sweet bitter beer, dry hopped for extra flavour. Very Moorish.
